My drawing and painting life

Summer wealth 1, big bold flower painting, acrylic paint and pastels on canvas (70 by 70 cm)

Exhibition in local community centre running until June 12th.

I’ve been busy getting it all together. That and working on courses. But I’d like to share the news here as well.

I’m showing a diversity of work. I have six paintings, some watercolors and mixed media work and 15 drawings, mostly face studies.

This was a long time in preparing. I had loads of work at a nearly finished state. It seems appropriate that I chose ‘FINISH” as my word of the year. This exhibition gave me ample opportunity to finish pieces, make them look good in a matt (passepartout) and frame.  And also, to really declare them finished by signing them. That was quite an effort for me – but I’ve done it and I’m happy about it.

I’m hoping there will be more exhibitions and that I learn from everyone!

There are four pieces of flower paintings  – painted in response to the Big Bold Bloom painting course by Lynn Whipple. She’s made it possible for many of us participants to move from quick small drawings in pastel, through mid-size canvases to paintings on larger ones. Lynn is such a wonderful supporter and her own work very inspiring to me! I’m happy about taking the course – and finishing it! – and making paintings on bigger canvases.

So in the exhibition I have four big bold flower paintings. Two of them are square. This one below was painted in December and January (most of it). Based on a beautiful bouquet I bought. I love it.  I hope the love shines through this rendering.

Winter wealth 1, acrylic and soft pastels on canvas, 90 by 90 cm

There is one more 90 by 90 in the works – with a blue background. I felt it needed some extra flowers at the top… and some tweaking. Nearly there…..but not finished, so it’s still in the studio.

And then there’s two dreamy story paintings. Some graphite drawings and lots of face drawings.
