My drawing and painting life
I recently started a new 100 day project. A 100 days of drawing (and some painting hopefully). I was meaning to work on a series of drawings of animals. But since I’ve been on a year of making faces/portraits last year, it’s one of the things that I like drawing and comes with ease even on days when I’m tired. So it will be lots of animals and faces.
I started on March 8, thinking I would get to day 100 in mid June, which would be a good time for celebrating 100 days of drawing… 🙂
March 8, international women’s day, seemed to call for something about women, women’s rights or at least faces of females, but I just felt like doing something else. I have been doing graphite drawings of animals recently – as this was one of the projects in a course I’m teaching. I produced a drawing of a hare.
This is a drawing where part is done by using a graphite pencil, part by erasing. I like this way of working a lot. It takes some concentration and that concentration pays off. First in the drawing, but also on the mind. After a little while it starts to feel rather good.
I would like to produce a series of at least four, but hopefully six to eight slow drawings, made in sessions of 6 to 10 hours, spread in sessions over several days.
I’m not always into making this kind of slow and layered drawing. Some days I like to just do some quick drawings, using a ‘fast and furious’ technique I learned in a course by Annie Hamman. On some days I will do that. On other days I’d like to paint.
PS My 100 days will run from March 8 until mid June. I will share regularly on the blog.
