My drawing and painting life
I did above girl on a page in a two year old sketchbook. There were old marks, some pencil and yellow watercolor. I just started drawing on top to find a face. And soon I was drawing this girl.
In fact I picked up a sketchbook I started in an online class by Cat Bennett, artist and art teacher from Boston. The class was all about using your sketchbook to get inspired, or find new inspiration of you’ve lost it. (Cat also took us through some wonderful assignments to investigate line work, shapes and color. But that’s not for today.) At the start of the course we just played with a brush and watercolor on the page. There are many pages that just have some strokes with a brush, some lines of a pencil, but nothing else. I have page after page after page of this brush play. Now’s a good time to add things to them.
The first girl was fun. I decided to start a new one the next day, working on a new page that had watercolor marks on them already. A bit sketchy, the composition could be better, but I don’t care. I had some fun, I don’t think I would have started doing her hair like that, if there wouldn’t have been wild marks on the page already.
Perhaps I will draw her again on a fresh page some day, and use other media. Or shall I add paint to this one. What do you think?
JUNE 2017 is Faces Month. I try to make as many faces as I can. And share at least twice or three times a week. More often if I feel like it. But not all days have to be about faces.
