My drawing and painting life
Repeating an idea I got from a class by Diane Culhane. Drawing with a line, just seeing what comes as you go from left to right and back. It’s a meditative kind of drawing, just letting go and see where the line will take you. Diane Culhane mentions in her class it was called ‘going for a walk with a line’, like the German painter Paul Klee said.
After a few drawings just using abstract shapes, I go into looking for objects and out come things that I’ve drawn and painted before (flowers and trees and leafs, fruits and bowls, bicycles and cars) in the drawing above.
Also it sometimes leads me to draw something that is close to my heart. Other times I draw something and one thing leads to another, or I draw as a thought flashes through me. The more I do these the more I like it as a way for warming up, for just being present on the page, nothing more.
I used the same assignment during the drawing club I started recently. I was amazed at the drawings that came out. Awesome and inspiring.
Here’s one I did preparing for the drawing club, one I really like. The mushrooms and of course that leads to new thoughts, but not necessarily to a dragon or a Tyrannosaurus? No, the thought of a boy who likes dragons came to mind, but it changed a bit in the drawing.
