My drawing and painting life

Color abstracts

I had a hard time deciding what to share for the 30 paintings challenge – as there’s 100 paintings to choose from. I just want to share some of the color abstracts I painted through the month of June and part of July. It started before the Flowers of sadness (series). For some reason I keep painting several themes next to each other and return to them once in a while.

For a while I really wanted to play with color and darkness. How do I put colors together, how to blend them together, scratching or no scratching? I rather like this one. It is called “Dipping into the dark side”. This is my  installment for day 21.

I didn’t just arrive at this. I played around with color first at the start of July. Below are two, of which I call the left one ‘Curious about the primaries’. The other one is without a title. It didn’t feel like a finished painting at the time.

I found I wanted to paint in red, or reds. But it seems I needed to convince myself, I kept dancing around it,  until finally I managed to paint one painting with a top layer all red (see below, the bottom right) called “All red, all red”. The top left is called “Invitation to red”, bottom left “Trying to paint red”.  You get what I mean. 🙂

I will make “Invitation to red” installment for day 21 and “Trying to paint red” for day 22.

30 paintings in 30 days challenge, days 20, 21 and 22.

Love the addition of the white dots… love seeing your progression. Really love these all! Red is a color I don’t use very often.

Thanks! I love the dots too. And I LOVE red. I don’t use it in paintings a lot, not in big blobs. I just felt like giving it center stage and experienced some hurdles before I actually allowed myself. Interesting experience. 😀
