My drawing and painting life
I’m catching up on lessons from Life Book 2016. Life Book is a year long course hosted by Tamara Laporte from Willowing, with a lesson each week from a line up of at least 25 different teachers. I have hardly been able to do these lessons until now. But I really felt like it by now. Nice change of theme (something other than abstract for once) and to try a different technique.
This piece is done after a lesson by Tamara Laporte, in which she shows using spray ink and doodling a butterfly. I started spraying colors with gusto and soon found out I made the background far too dark. Rather than starting over I decided to add gesso on top to see what would happen. From then whenever I tried to add more ink – to get vibrancy back – they seeped into the gesso, leaving me with a vague color. I ended up giving it my own twist adding gelatos on top to get a more vibrant look in the background. I could try to make the butterfly pop more, but decided to call it done. Time to move to the next piece or next lesson.
