My drawing and painting life

Flower painting

On May 17 (#260/365) I felt like painting flowers. In fact I started two. This one I liked best.

Acrylic paint, appr 20 x 20 cm, watercolor paper

I started a series of abstract paintings on  square paper the day before. I had prepared a few sheets at a time with gesso to start some more abstracts. Obviously I got to doing abstracted versions of either poppies or some spring flower I don’t remember the name of right now. At first I thought I should get rid of the flowers, as ‘I should’ paint abstracts on these papers. Fortunately I kept them and remembered my motto for the year. “There’s always another day”…. this time there will be another day to try a true abstract again. 🙂

I would call this an abstract floral. It is a figurative abstract. I love it. I did some florals that I considered to be somewhat abstract but I was told by a purist that abstract didn’t contain recognizable objects. This is much closer to abstract than mine was.
