My drawing and painting life

Ink people

I would like to share this fun video tutorial by Carla Sonheim in which she shows a fun technique. Some of my followers will probably already have seen it on Carla’s website. Or perhaps on Jill Kuhns blog.

Here it is.

Obviously I loved to try this myself. I used it as a warming up in the studio the other dayΒ  (May 10) before starting painting in oils.

Here’s one of my results using ink on the negative space (the space outside of the subject, here: the person).

Here’s some more, some full body pics.

(Might even be the doodlewash party that Charlie is throwing all month on his blog, Doodlewash).

And some more, trying to use negative space. That was a bit more difficult. They look a bit awkward, don’t they?

These were obviously not meant to be finished art works, I used some cheap sketching paper, and it buckled on the pieces whereΒ  I used lots of ink.

If you want to see a fun take on ink people – do check out Jill Kuhns take on this fun project. She combined the project with Charlie’s idea of throwing a doodlewash party – inviting everyone to make watercolor paintings of food in the month of May, share it on their blog ( add the tag #doodlewashparty).

Some of my ink people also look like they are about to go to a party, don’t they? I must have been inspired by Jill to do that. πŸ™‚ The awkard-looking couples just look like they didn’t feel like partying much. Ah well, we all have days like that, don’t we?

So fun πŸ™‚ Do you use Photoshop to edit? I can show you how to get rid of the ripples. I’m gone for a week w/o internet, but get in touch if you’d like. You can do it in gimp too. πŸ™‚

Oh, thanks for the offer. No I should learn photoshop, but perhaps not right now. I’m still looking for a good blend of work and play and rest – and learning new habits after being ill. But thanks so much.
