My drawing and painting life

77 days of Daily Creating

Some days I just begin something or add to a painting I started earlier.

On day 77 (Nov 16) I started an abstract painting – on which I intend to add on another day when I have time to paint. That may take a while. This will be a continuing story as it were. (I am trying to really keep to using about an hour maximum each day. That’s not always easy. Once I start, I want to finish. But on working days the work has to come first. So IĀ  may have to delay finishing a painting like this for days or even weeks. Especially now daylight is becoming scarce.* )

The flower painting is a continuing story as well. I started it weeks ago. First it was only colored background and some paint drips, probably done while having left over paint from another painting (on day 59 perhaps, or even a lot earlier). Then I added stippling on the background, then during a third session (on day 72) I added flowers and some color on the sky and grass and leaves. On day 77 I changed some of the sky and started blocking out some of the drips and added some stippling to the flower centers. It will take at least one more session to finish this painting.

I am having a lot of fun doing this painting (step by step) even if it’s only 20 x 20 centimeters, it’s a big deal to me by now to get it right. Layering, layering, layering.

You should see my canvas board that I used as a palette! It’s constantly changing color. Some days I really love how it looks – sometimes it looks even better than the painting I’m working on. Haha!

PS * A Ping!-moment just now. It suddenly dawned on me I need a daylight lamp for doing art in the evening!

PPS I am inspired by two artists here: Diane Culhane (especially her course ‘Paint your Garden: the Language of Paint’) and Alena Hennessy ( I started in her Year of Painting course in August).

Your flower painting looks lovely, Corinne! šŸ˜Š It helps me to have a painting in process to keep me engaged with making art. šŸŽØ

Thanks, Jill. Yes sometimes that helps. For me, having a plan for the next day helps – with a plan b, c and d šŸ™‚ .
