My drawing and painting life

Day 64 “Dragonfly cut”

Another one of the Best of November so far. I like this oil painting titled ‘Dragonfly cut’. It is one of my first oil paintings ever and I was quite surprised about how wonderful it looks.

Dragonfly cut . Oil painting inspired by Co Westerik. Ink, egg tempera and oil paint on canvas board. 40 x 50 com. Day 64 / Nov 3.

The oil painting has a similar story as the fox. It took several steps and two evening paintings sessions during a life oil painting class to get to this stage. Before the painting sessions I had been drawing hands regularly. Drawing hands is standard homework for my oil painting class. Apart from that, I drew dragonflies several times ; that was my choice for daily creating for a couple of days in October. (See earlier posts for those drawings.) One of the dragonflies seemed to be made just right to sit on top of a pointed finger I had drawn. It all clicked together and I had the subject for my (under)drawing for the oil painting ready in no time. And just in time for the class.
