My drawing and painting life
Over the past few days I practiced some of the assignments of Cat Bennetts Sketchbook Class, to draw things from our daily lives. I was also preparing for the workshop during the weekend, so I did some other subject matter as well. When I returned home after the weekend I felt like digging in again in the monthly theme. After some getting to know the subject, I made this drawing with a watercolor pencil of a dragonfly (with an added wash on the lines):
(For the earlier versions, see below.)
But here’s the drawing, drawing, drawing work done over the past week:
Another set of contour drawings of a pen (Oct 23), the day I was to leave for the weekend. I find it very rewarding to do these drawings. I feel that I am getting to know the object by doing the blind contours. Doing them in color – as we do in the Sketchbook class by Cat Bennett – is really wonderful. I love that.
2. While away at a weekend at a conference centre, going to workshops and lectures, I was happily drawing cups and plants and a chair when I got the chance (Oct24 and Oct 25);
3. When I returned home October 26 I started the week with a day of art. I really felt like going back to the monthly theme and chose a dragonfly for a flying critter. I used the contour drawing technique again. I found doing the contour drawings plus a watercolor pencil drawing with washed lines, quite pleasant.
PS My own drawing class went really well. It was great fun. I hope to get some pictures of the results to share later.
