My drawing and painting life

Watercolors and beyond mini exhibition

Some of my recent bird paintings are on show now in a window in a nice neighborhood in my town, called Tuinwijk (translated literally: garden neighborhood). On Monday 11th I put some of my paintings in the window.

I had been brooding over which pieces to show, when suddenly I knew. Let’s just put on some of my most recent pieces, all birds. I made these in a wonderful class on “Birds in watercolor and beyond”, taught by Val Webb. I learned so much in this class. We didn’t just do watercolors per se, color mixing, practicing brush strokes, techniques like layering washes and putting down and lifting paint. We also practiced interesting ink techniques and used gouache.

Here’s a chicken I painted in that class – it’s not in the little exhibition.

Anyone living in my area, Utrecht, can still see them until June 29th in the window of Buurtstalling Tuinwijk. Adress: Van der Mondestraat 53, Utrecht.

This is how it looks in that window. I like my birds. They seem to fit nicely together.
