My drawing and painting life
For several months I have been drawing and painting birds and flowers. Recently I’ve taken some interesting watercolor classes. I’m learning a lot about that medium from great teachers, Fred Lisaius and Val Webb. From Diane Culhanes drawing and painting classes I’ve taken away a few interesting techniques too. All of this comes together in recent watercolor pieces that are kind of intuitive.
I’d like to share some watercolor pieces that owe something to the sgraffito technique I learned from Diane Culhane. Lately I find a lot of pleasure in a doing a kind of “splash-some-acrylic-ink-into-watercolor-flood-washes-and-scratch-away” paintings. After revisiting Dianes class this year – and doing Fred Lisaius’ watercolor classes – something clicked and I’ve been painting away to my hearts content. Here’s one piece I particularly like:
Of course I do make a deliberately planned image of a flower or a bird from time to time. But right now my heart says no to these.. I have been doing a lot of birds and flowers (and garden scenes over the past year). Now they just come ‘pouring out of me’, like Diane so wonderfully put it some time ago.
I am really happy about this.
Somehow my spring feeling is coming through in these watercolor plus paintings. Hope you like them!
